Paul Dickow, organ and synthesiser; Borg Norum, drums & percussion.

Two Noises began as a basement improvisation group in Moscow, Idaho in the early 90s. Paul moved to Portland to form Entertainment and attend Reed College, but when Borg moved to Portland some months later they resumed improvising, this time with renewed focus.Combining Paul's interests in 'outsider' rock and experimental music with Borg's interests in traditional jazz, bebop and free jazz, the group settled on electric improvisation as a specialty. Miles Davis ca. 1969-1976 was a particularly important point of reference.
After cycling through several identities (as Rokplug and Logplug featuring Jay Sanders on electric guitar; and as Dymaxion Sound, until Stereolab informed them of a similar group on the East Coast called Dymaxion) the group settled on Two Noises as a name.In fall of 1996 the group supported Jessamine at the Portland date of their US tour. When Jessamine moved to Portland that winter, they began recording Norum and Dickow at their home studio. Two Noises recorded four or five sessions total with Andy Brown and Rex Ritter (now of Fontanelle and proprietors of Magnetic Park studio in Portland) which were intended to be edited into a full LP release for Histrionic. These sessions feature an even more "outside" sound in contrast to the driving, spirited songs from the debut 7"; moving away from Miles and into a newer language specific to the duo. The recording project was abandoned when Norum moved to New York State to complete his degree at University of Rochester. Borg also served as a drummer for Fontanelle and is featured on a cut on the 12" EP F (audraglint/Kranky)

However, editing for an upcoming retrospective/anthology is currently underway and will probably not be finished.
Borg Norum is about to return to the Pacific NW at which time Two Noises are likely to reunite! meanwhile, Paul is busy with Archigramophone and lots of other stuff.
